Golden Corn Paper Squishy

Assembly overview

1. Print at the real size. Choose A4 or US Letter PDF for your paper. Print at 100% / Actual Size, without Fit to Page. Measure the printed 50 mm line with a ruler before cutting. Use ordinary printer paper, clear tape, scissors and soft tissue.
2. Choose colour or colouring. Use one version, not both. If using the colouring pages, colour before adding tape. F and B belong to one object. Kernels, husks and the face are printed details: do not cut around them.
3. Protect the printed faces. Cover the printed side of every panel with smooth strips of clear tape, overlapping slightly. Leave each blank reverse untaped. Burnish out air pockets. Both front and back pictures need this protection.
4. Transfer marks, then cut. Before cutting, use light through the paper to copy endpoints 1 and 2 onto the blank reverse and the cut-edge position. Cut only the solid outside contour. Keep matching F and B together. Printed detail lines stay inside the piece.
5. Align the two panels. Turn B over. Put the blank sides together and the pictures outward. The mirrored B silhouette now matches F. Match the rounded tip and husks and the two pencil endpoints. The 36 mm edge between 1 and 2 will stay open.
6. Bridge the edge with tape. Start away from the opening. Pinch the paper edges together. Centre a short strip of clear tape over the edge and fold it onto BOTH protected printed faces. The enlarged side section shows the U-shaped wrap. No wall strip or glue tabs are needed.
7. Follow every rounded edge. Add short tape strips with slight overlaps. Keep the paper edges together as you turn around the contour. Press each strip onto both faces. Leave room inside for a light filling; do not stretch the tape into a thick side wall.
8. Seal the tapered tips. Use very short tape pieces around the rounded tip and husks. If a flap wrinkles, snip only the free overhanging tape, stopping before the paper edge. Fold each small flap onto the other face and overlap the next strip. Do not cut the printed kernels or leaves.
9. Keep one opening. Continue around the perimeter but leave the whole 36 mm edge between pencil marks 1 and 2 untaped. The green route is sealed; the blue dashed route remains open. Check that there are no other gaps before filling.
10. Fill gently through 1-2. Push small loose pieces of soft tissue through the opening. Spread them gently into the body and broad tips. Keep the paper edge pinched thin. Stop before the faces become taut or seams pull. Keep filling out of the final tape area.
11. Seal the final opening. Bring the two paper edges together between 1 and 2. Apply short overlapping tape strips across the gap, folding every strip onto both faces. Join into the already sealed ends. Press the tape all along the repaired edge.
12. Check the finished squishy. Inspect the whole perimeter, including inward turns and the final opening. Press down loose tape. The result is a lightly puffed paper silhouette with a thin taped edge, not a rigid side-wall model. Squeeze gently and keep dry.
