Assembly overview

  1. Print at actual size. Choose A4 or Letter and color OR coloring pages. Print single-sided at 100%; turn off Fit to Page. Measure the 50 mm line. Color before cutting.
  2. Choose a matching pair. One doll needs two pieces with the same number: 1F + 1B, 2F + 2B, 3F + 3B or 4F + 4B. F has the face; B has the back of the hair and clothes.
  3. Cut the outside only. Cut both outer contours. Keep white paper between limbs and around hair: these bridges are part of the body. Do not cut internal hair, clothing or stitching lines.
  4. Blank faces together. Turn B over behind F. Put the unprinted sides together and keep both printed sides outside. Align the head, hands and feet. Do not glue the surfaces together.
  5. Wrap tape over the edge. Use short pieces of clear tape to join the sheets. Put half the tape on the front, then fold the other half over the edge onto the back. Slightly overlap adjacent pieces.
  6. Keep a 25 mm opening. Leave the red section untaped on your RIGHT when looking at the face. Use the matching doll diagram here. Seal the rest of the outline; do not cut a hole in the body.
  7. Seal curved edges. Use narrower, shorter tape on bends and bun edges. Each piece wraps over the same paper edge. Overlap tape ends and press both sides. Keep the filling opening clear.
  8. Add small amounts of tissue. Feed loose tissue through the opening. A blunt stick can gently guide a little into the head, hands, feet and doll 2’s buns. Fill lightly; do not force narrow areas or stretch the paper.
  9. Close the opening. Remove tissue caught between the edges. Align the open seam and wrap tape across it, overlapping the tape at both ends. Check the whole outline for loose edges.
  10. Play gently. Press the broad body gently. Do not pull the head, buns or limbs; there are no moving joints. Keep dry. If a seam lifts, realign it and add a short strip of tape. Repeat for the other dolls.
